"Restawhile" Cottage on Little Deer Isle, Maine.


Here are pictures and summary history of our cottage (pre-Civil War vintage farm house) on Little Deer Isle, Maine. This website is for our family and friends who may have interest in Restawhile or have visited us here; we rarely let others use Restawhile Cottage. N.B. Restawhile is a farm house built about 1855 (possibly between 1845 and 1855) on what is now Eggemoggin Road on Little Deer Isle, Maine. The first family member to use the house, in about 1910) was Cornelia Hancock, first cousin twice removed of Henrietta Gibbon Stratton Jaquette, who purchased the house on November 5, 1946 from Eleanor Reed Alum (for $967.10 including contents - but it needed a lot of work), brought in electricity in 1953, and then modernized the house about 1958-1959 with indoor plumbing, running hot and cold water, and flush toilet, and later telephone (ring 3 long and two short) - thus out went the two-holer. So who needs more than one outlet per room delivering up to 1 amp in the 1950's? The wood stove was converted to oil, but now there is a propane gas heater too.
